Quick answer

What is an air handler and why does it need cleaning?

The air handler is the indoor unit — usually in the attic, closet or garage — that holds the blower, evaporator coil and drain pan. Because it is cold and wet in summer, dust that passes the filter sticks and grows biofilm. Cleaning it restores airflow, stops musty smells and helps prevent drain overflows.

Overview

What is air handler cleaning?

In Texas attics, air handlers work in 130°F+ heat while handling cold, wet air inside. Gaps around filter racks let unfiltered dust in, and the drain pan becomes a breeding ground if it does not drain completely.

We shut down power, open the cabinet, clean all interior surfaces, clean the blower assembly, wash the coil, flush the pan and condensate line, check the float switch, and seal obvious air leaks around the cabinet and filter rack.

Air Handler Cleaning is part of our hvac cleaning services. Many customers book it together with hvac cleaning.
